ORATION 2024, the much anticipated flagship event of the Gavel Club of University of Colombo, for the year 2024, is an intra-university English speech competition designed to provide a platform for university undergraduates to delve into the world of public speaking. The competition is aimed at individual personal development and mastering the art of effective public communication with an audience.
The tentative timeline for the event spans from the beginning of May to mid-July.
The competition comprises three rounds: Preliminary, Semi-Finals, and Finals.
Prior to the Preliminary round, an informative workshop will be conducted in the second week of May.
The Preliminary Round will bring submissions from 30-40 undergraduates from UOC, competing for a spot in the Semi-Finals.
The Semi-Finals (1st June, 2024) will be conducted physically, bringing together the top 12 participants from the Preliminary round, in a showdown to determine the best speakers who will advance to the Grand Final Round.
The Grand Finale Event (13th July, 2024), where the ultimate winner and the most popular speaker will be awarded, is also planned to be held physically, providing a vibrant platform for the culmination of the competition.
